When We Were Young and Unafraid

When We Were Young and Unafraid

A benefit for local women's shelters

Carnegie Stage - 25 West Main Street, Carnegie, PA, USA

Please Join us for a unique theatrical event featuring a performance of When We Were Young and Unafraid by Sarah Treem and original music compositions by professional cellist Robin Treybig.

This intense and moving story features characters whose worlds collide during the early 1970's. Agnes and her daughter Penny run a remote bed and breakfast while secretly helping women on the run from domestic violence. Their lives change with the arrival of a battered Mary Anne, revolutionary Hannah, and musician in recovery Paul. One character yearns for freedom. Another yearns for peace. Another survives when the worst happens and learns to dance again. They learn how to give and receive help. They fight to find their path in this world.

Women in distressed circumstances often lack basic needs. We will gratefully accept donations of unopened packages of diapers and feminine products at the theater before the show. Ticket sales and donations will be distributed based upon performance date:

5/4-5/5 Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh

5/9 Arise

5/11 Crisis Center North

5/12 Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA

This play explores intense emotional material and is for mature audiences only. There are verbal descriptions of domestic violence and implied sexual content. Estimated total run time 120 minutes. Robin Treybig is playing the cello live on May 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th. May 9th's production will feature an audio recording of Robin performing her original cello compositions. When We Were Young and Unafraid by Sarah Treem performed with permission from Dramatists Play Service Inc. A Stoops Ferry Production with generous support from Off the Wall Charitable Trust and Jazzercise Carnegie Fitness Center.
